I was waiting to see what this Mystic King was all about purely due to how awesome it looks in the opening, and HOT DAMN was I not disappointed.

As a mere casual anime watcher, I can't make any comments on its actual viability in the Shadowverse metagame, but that's not gonna stop me from thinking it's incredibly neat conceptually. Insanely high cost for insanely high stats, the potential to raise a veritable army of Stormers to utterly decimate the opposing field, and instantly finish the fight if the Leader is so much as moderately weakened, while protecting your own with Ward... all at the cost of losing the whole thing if it can be brought down, just like in real chess.

Just, super clever all around 👌

that King's last words is...unfortunate. obviously it is there to fully enclosed the chess theming: once the king is taken, it's your loss. at least they actually gave it one layer of protection, though I wonder if it should be immune to destruction effect too (like Bane) to be worth playing in current meta.

btw, King's stats is the same stats as new Bahamut (and old Bahamut before nerf), which is the dragon you see in Cygames' company logo. Shion can be proud having an ace with iconic statlines for sure. funnily enough, the only other follower with bigger stats is also a Runecraft card.

I think the reason I still felt it's not enough is bcos we have new Shion (not this anime's Shion, but a different character) which has triple protection layers (anti effect damage, anti destruction, and anti-banish): this is the card

ofc anti-banish in Mystic King's case is not needed so I think anti effect damage would be neat, but I guess the anti-effect targeting on top of anti-destruction is alrdy enough to force enemy to have to trade to it (this does make dragon tend to be able to remove it rather easily though, they have an abundant amount of cheap strong aoe damage options)

This has become a buzzkill now that Gentleman is a girl. Makes his character more explicit to why it has so many girly tendencies. But it makes no sense why did she not make a girl avatar and made it to be male? At least be gender specific!

So, you like to use a character in games that is the opposite of your birth gender? Wouldn't it make you feel embarrassed or at least weird? Based on how laughed at girly boys are in most cultures, a guy portraying as a girl would be super weird. Not sure if for girls its the same or viceversa.

U would be suprised 99% girl chara in MMO are males. And few % of males chara are females.
If anything, the gentleman chara is perfect, she want someone like that to exist to embrace her.
